Our work depends on the contributions of people with lived experience, families, caregivers, researchers, community organizations, governments, and partners who share a commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and meaningful engagement.
There are many ways to get involved in the Forum’s work. Whether you are interested in volunteering, serving in a leadership role, contributing to research projects, or exploring partnership opportunities, we welcome the opportunity to connect.

As the Forum grows, volunteer opportunities may become available to support research activities, knowledge-sharing initiatives, events, outreach, and community engagement.
We recognize that people contribute in different ways and bring different forms of knowledge and experience. Volunteers play an important role in helping strengthen relationships, share knowledge, and support the Forum’s activities.

Advisory committee members may include:
- People with lived experience
- Family members and caregivers
- Elders
- Community leaders
- Researchers
- Service providers
- Subject matter experts
Participation opportunities will vary depending on the project.

Partnership inquiries and collaboration pathways
The National Disability Knowledge Forum welcomes opportunities to collaborate with communities, organizations, researchers, governments, educational institutions, and other partners.
For the Forum, ethical partnership means more than consultation. It means developing relationships that recognize community knowledge, respect local priorities, and create opportunities for meaningful participation throughout a project’s lifecycle.
When working with communities and partners, we strive to:
- Build relationships before seeking outcomes.
- Respect the knowledge and expertise that already exists within communities.
- Ensure engagement is meaningful rather than symbolic.
- Share information openly and honestly.
- Create opportunities for communities to influence decisions.
- Recognize lived experience as expertise.
- Promote reciprocity and mutual benefit.
- Support accessibility in all aspects of engagement.
- Foster long-term relationships whenever possible.
Researchers, organizations, governments, and institutions interested in partnering with the Forum are encouraged to contact us early in the planning stages of projects to explore opportunities for collaboration.
